For those of you that just like me had no idea about the movie or had never heard about Grumpy Old Men movies, well it is a classic in the American culture. It actually reminded of Home Alone!
Thanks to my work, I discovered the beautiful Lake Pepin in Minnesota. And off course around Wabasha you cannot go anywhere without seeing references to the movies Grumpy Old Men and Grumpier Old Men. What I didn't know is that Wabasha even hosted a yearly festival dedicated to the movie with fun activities like ice fishing, scavenger hunts, and the craziest thing: ice plunge in the river. Yes you heard that right: people are getting dressed up to jump in the frozen waters of the Mississippi River.

Do you recognize what our blue and orange couple are dressed up as??? Dumb and Dumber off course!!
A sneak peak at the movie
Before this trip, I had never heard of Grumpy Old Men. So off course we had to rent it on Saturday night at our AirBnB house. It reminded me a lof of Home Alone for some reason! But I actually really enjoyed the movie, even more after the Grumpy Old Men festival since we were able to recognize a lot of the places in the movie!
I won't say it enough but I am a city girl, so ice fishing is a very strange activity for me just like regular fishing!! But I got to admit that it was pretty amusing to see the techniques and everything involved in this "sport". I was even more surprised to see that people are willing to drive their big truck to the middle of Lake Pepin to go ice fishing!!! I don't care if they could prove to me by the thickness of the ice on the lake and any other scientific data, there is no way you would make me drive on ice. I wasn't even able to go further than a few feet! Our friends with us, which had never seen ice and a frozen lake, told me that they had walked half way across the lake which is approximately 1.7m or 2.7km wide. It took them an hour to go back and forth! According to the US Army Corp. of Engineering website, this year when we were at Lake Pepin the thickness of the blue ice was 12" which is 30cm.
In any case the scenery was just amazing but I do prefer being in warm places!
